Since the construction and development of the automobile industry, there has been a tendency to classify vehicles according to their use and/or bodywork.

Many categories of cars are known nowadays, some of which include sub-categories, thanks to the development of the production of cars according to the needs and demands of the market. However, do we know how to differentiate between these categories?
Here below we will quote the famous categories most widespread in the automotive market.

The city-dweller car :

The city-dweller car is a car for use in the city, as the name suggests. This car is part of the A-segment or the mini-city class. This type of vehicle, despite its style without much detail, has a lot of advantages in terms of its daily use. A very low consumption, small size very easy to park and suitable for movement in and around the city. Not to mention that this category is the cheapest in the automotive market.

Sedan :

This vehicle model first appeared in Berlin in 1670, which is where it got its name. The Sedan was originally a suspended horse-drawn vehicle, now it's a luxurious, spacious, comfortable, and safe car, the Sedan is ideally designed for family trips and long road trips. One of the famous cars in this category: Renault Talisman, Ford Mondeo, VW Passat, Audi A6.

SUV :

The acronym stands for Sports Utility Vehicle. A spacious and versatile vehicle with all-terrain capability and a majestic, elevated ride. These cars are very fashionable, gradually replacing the crossover MPVs. The SUV category currently includes sub-categories like compact SUVs, family SUVs, and large 4 * 4 SUVs. The star brands in this category are the WV Tiguan, The Dacia Duster, the Nissan Qashqai, and the Audi Q7.

MPV :

These vehicles became trendy in the 90s and 2000s also known as minivans. Minivans first appeared in 1956 with the Fiat Multipla, then accentuated after more than 20 years with Renault Espace in 1984. A hatchback vehicle with a large interior space and more seats. This class includes 3 distinct sub-categories which are Minispaces, Monospaces, and Large Monospaces.

Recreational vehicles :

Recreational vehicles are medium-sized vehicles between MPVs and city-dweller cars. Recreational vehicles are a derivation of commercial vehicles by replacing the sheet metal panels with windows and adding rear seats. Recreational vehicles are light, very practical, and livable. The precursors of this category are the Citroen Berlingo and the Peugeot Partner.
